Lucky One Table &
Lucky Too Record Stand
Inspiration & Process
The original design of the Lucky One Table was based off of prism cubes and furniture designs by Isamu Noguchi. The new design touches on some of the same swooping light features of the prism, but resembles the wing of a monarch butterfly. An iterative approach guided the project as each new laser-cut model had slight adjustments made to improve functionality and visual appeal. After the design was finalized, it was cut on a CNC machine and sanded down by hand. The final tabletop showcases a unique bold pink stain, which is layered on top of a custom stain mixture.
Lucky One Final Analysis
The simplicity of the table top contrasts with the decorative legs. A pomegranate red dye-epoxy mixture creates a bold visual statement, balancing the piece as focus is pulled evenly towards the top and bottom of the table.
Lucky Too Final Analysis
As the companion piece to the Lucky One, the Lucky Too utilizes the same creation process as well as similar visual elements. Bright red shelves serve as the vocal point on all faces of the piece as the mortise-and-tenon joinery is left exposed. Symmetrical details are placed on the back and side panels to let light pass through.
