Kingsbury Kiosk

Based on the movie Howl's Moving Castle, this kiosk offers whimsy and transportation of users into the fictional land of Kingsbury. The aim of this project is to create an interactive space using solely digital means. Revit and Enscape software were utilized to develop the space. Whimsy is the concept of the Kingsbury Kiosk. The wayfinding through the space is flexible and there are multiple ways for visitors to interact with it. A touchscreen panel to the right of the fireplace will display information on different locales from the movie. To the left, users can turn a dial to be transported to one of these places after walking through the portal door. The style of the kiosk is based on the architecture in Kingsbury which is historically rooted in French Baroque and post-industrial revolution architecture. Gaudy, decorative details will pepper the space to mirror the kingdom’s riches. Natural light sources like a skylight and fireplace paired with classical architectural forms like an ionic column and rotunda also bring an air of fantasy and whimsy to the kiosk. Visitors will feel immediately transported and fanciful.
